Historic environment

Bromley Borough has a rich historic environment which helps to deliver a range of benefits, including economic and cultural benefits. The historic environment includes a variety of heritage assets such as listed building and conservation.

Orpington Town Centre has a number of heritage assets that contribute significantly to local character and distinctiveness. This includes several listed and locally listed buildings, including the Grade II listed War Memorial. The Priory, Orpington conservation area covers the northern part of the town centre. There are also a number of listed buildings that are in close proximity to the town centre.

The historic environment is protected through various legislative regimes including planning. The SPD could provide further guidance on the historic environment, with the aim of protecting the historic environment and identifying how new development can be accommodated without causing significant harm.
