The Bromley Local Plan identifies an office cluster - an area with good quality existing office provison - at Knoll Rise in Orpington Town Centre. Offices in the town centre, both within the identified cluster and elsewhere, can help ensure employment growth within the local economy and contribute to the creation of a successful economic “growth area” along the Cray Valley (in line with the aims for the Cray Valley Renewal Area identified in the Local Plan).

Post COVID-19, the nature of work and use of office space may change significantly. Potential increases in agile working and working from home mean that there may be demand for different types of office accommodation which enables more ad hoc, flexible working arrangements. Orpington Town Centre is accessible by a variety of transport modes, including sustainable transport, therefore it has potential to expand its employment role even where there are dramatic shifts in the ways people work.
